How remote bookkeeping works with us
For small businesses anywhere in the United States: how the work starts, how documents reach us, and what to settle about access to your books.
How does remote bookkeeping work with Total BizSolutions?
Total BizSolutions LLC, an accounting firm in Trumbull, Connecticut, keeps the books for small businesses in Connecticut and throughout the United States. You start with a phone call or a 30-minute consultation booked online. Statements and paperwork come in through a secure client portal, the accounts are reconciled, and you get monthly reports in plain terms. Monthly work is priced starting at $500/month. The owner, Dave Salerno, has more than 30 years of experience. Call (267) 710-6742, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
What changes when your bookkeeper is not down the road
The work itself is the same: transactions recorded, accounts reconciled, reports at the end of the month. What changes is how paperwork and questions travel.
With a local bookkeeper, you might drop off a folder or sit across a desk. Working remotely, statements and documents go up through a secure client portal, and questions go by phone or email. The office is in Trumbull, Connecticut. Your business can be in Connecticut or in another state.
Before you start, settle two things: how documents will reach us, and who holds the logins to your books.
A local bookkeeper vs remote bookkeeping
| Question | A local bookkeeper | Remote bookkeeping with us |
|---|---|---|
| Getting documents over | Paper dropped off, or files sent however you agree | Uploaded through a secure client portal |
| Asking a question | A visit, a call or an email | A call or an email, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm |
| The first conversation | Often a meeting at the office | A phone call or a 30-minute consultation booked online |
| Where your business can be | Usually near the bookkeeper's office | Connecticut or anywhere in the United States |
| What you get each month | Depends on the bookkeeper | Reconciled accounts and monthly reports |
Who remote bookkeeping with us suits
Best for
- Small businesses outside Connecticut that want the books, payroll and tax returns with one firm
- Owners happy to scan or upload statements rather than hand over paper
- Owners whose books are behind and need catch-up bookkeeping before the monthly work starts
- New businesses that need QuickBooks Online set up and the books opened
Not the best fit
- Anyone who needs an audit, review or compilation of their financial statements, or representation before the IRS. Our guide to choosing a small business accountant covers when a different kind of firm is the better fit.
Access to your books: what to settle before you start
Keep the main login in your name
The account that holds your books should belong to your business, with you as its administrator. Whoever keeps the books for you should work under a login you gave them.
Give each person their own login
Do not share your own password with a bookkeeper. A separate login shows who changed what, and you can switch it off without changing yours.
Agree how documents travel
Decide which documents go through the client portal and which, if any, by email, so nothing sits in an inbox you forget about.
Know how access ends
Ask what happens to your books and the files you sent if you stop working together, and get the answer in writing before you start.
How onboarding works
- 1
A first call
Call (267) 710-6742 or book a 30-minute consultation online. We talk about what you want handed over, the software your books are in and the last month they were up to date.
- 2
Your figure and the scope
Monthly work is priced starting at $500/month, and your own figure depends on what you hand over. One-off work, such as catch-up bookkeeping or QuickBooks Online setup, is not part of the starting price, so ask about it on the call. Ask for the scope in writing.
- 3
Documents through the portal
Statements and paperwork come in through the secure client portal. The Client Portal link sits at the top of every page on this site.
- 4
Set up or catch up
If the books are behind, catch-up bookkeeping brings them current first. If you are starting out and want QuickBooks Online, setting it up is one of our services.
- 5
Monthly books and reports
Transactions are recorded, bank and credit card accounts are reconciled, and you get monthly reports in plain terms. Payroll and tax returns can sit with the same firm.
The services behind this are bookkeeping, payroll and tax preparation and filing. Our office is in Trumbull, Connecticut, and we work with small businesses throughout the United States.
Talk it through
